A dozen public and private schools in Parla are participating in Cantania this school year. This is the 36th edition of this pedagogical and musical project by L’Auditori de Barcelona, supported once again by the Parla City Council, thanks to the involvement of participating educational centers. After rehearsing the cantata «Real» throughout the school year, the students will perform it at the Jaime Salom Theater from May 20th to 23rd, with morning shows for their classmates and afternoon shows for the general public. The singers are 9 to 11 years old and are in 4th and 5th grade.
Around 300 students from Parla will sing «Real» from May 20th to 23rd
Since 2010, with the exception of the pandemic hiatus, the Parla City Council has been part of the Cantania music program, a participatory activity by the Educational Service of L’Auditori de Barcelona.
The project is made possible by the involvement of schools in Parla. It is one of the resources offered to them through the Arts for Learning program by the Department of Culture. Fourth and fifth-grade students from a dozen educational centers have been rehearsing with their music teachers throughout the school year. From May 20th to 23rd, they will finally have the opportunity to showcase what they have learned, acting as true musical actors and actresses, with live musicians and singers.

This year, the cantata is titled «Real,» composed by Xavier Pastrana with dramaturgy by Llucia Ramis. The participating schools include public schools Ciudad de Parla, Julián Besteiro, Los Lagos, Miguel Hernández, Pablo Picasso, Rosa Luxemburgo, Rosa Montero, and Séneca, as well as the private school Torrente Ballester.
«Real» features Vera and Ernest as protagonists, characters from a video game. Ernest wants to know what lies beyond the adventures they are doomed to repeat screen after screen. Vera tells him that reality and fiction are the same. However, they end up jumping to a different world where they are scared but find many other players, boys and girls, who will teach them, through music and singing, that each person is always the protagonist of their own life’s game.
Double shows at the Jaime Salom Theater, with free entry every afternoon for the general public
The performances of «Real» – recommended for ages 5 and up – will be double each day, at 12:00 for school audiences and at 19:00 for the general public. Entry is free and can be collected for each day’s show starting an hour before, at 18:00, at the theater box office.
Parla is one of over 20 cities from six European and American countries participating in Cantania since its inception. In this edition, 50,000 children will participate, with around 300 of them being from Parla.
