The Parla City Council, through the Department of Ecological Transition and Sustainable Mobility, has begun the installation of the first universal bike racks in various locations across the city.
These structures – a total of 300 – will be located next to public buildings and points of interest, preferably in service lanes, with the aim, among other things, of allowing bike and VMP users to reach their usual destinations without the need for a motor vehicle, promoting active and sustainable mobility, and protecting and boosting local commerce, as there is a direct and positive relationship between pedestrian and cycling infrastructure and an increase in sales.

In addition to the city council and various departments, all schools and institutes in Parla, the Language School, and the UNED will have a bike rack area.
They will also be installed at interchanges such as Cercanías, in modal exchange nodes (such as tram stations that connect with the bus network), and in sports and cultural centers, such as the Gloria Fuertes library or the Dulce Chacón theater, among others.

These structures consist of a metal profile embedded in the ground that allows bikes and other cycles like personal mobility vehicles to be securely anchored.
The arched shape allows both the wheels and the frame to be anchored to the bar, an essential type of fastening for increased security. The inverted U system has been chosen for its versatility and low risk of theft, as it is more visible.

Following the guidelines of the Recommendations Guide for Bicycle Infrastructure Design from the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the bike racks will be installed preferably in the service lane and will be accessible from the roadway, like other vehicles, or from the current network of bike lanes; with special care not to reduce pedestrian space.
«Having a place to park your bike is essential to promote cycling mobility in any city and provides a solution to the lack of space for those homes that cannot accommodate their own,» says the Sustainable Mobility Councilor, Miguel Fuentes Sánchez.
